“…celebrating the passage from childhood to adolescence with a ritual that expresses thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and that asks for a blessing from God for the years ahead.”
(from the Order for the Blessing on the Fifteenth Birthday)
The young girl (Quinceañera) must be a practicing Catholic who has been Baptized, received her First Holy Communion and is enrolled in our Faith Formation Program (Religious Education) preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
She (her parents or guardians)must also be a registered member of St. John XXIII Parish or has written permission from the pastor of their parish where they are registered.
Quinceañera blessings in our parish are celebrated outside of the Mass within a celebration of a Liturgy of the Word. If musicians outside of our parish (e.g., Mariachi) are desired, a memorandum found below must be filled out and returned to our parish office at least a month before the scheduled Quinceañera to ensure that all musicians follow Safe Environment protocols (Background Check & Safe Environment Training).
Quinceañera celebrations must be scheduled at least 6 months in advance with Lissette Andrade, our bilingual secretary, at (203) 934-5249 | lissette.stjohn23@gmail.com
If musicians outside of our parish are desired for the Quinceañera Celebration, the Memorandum must be filled out and submitted to our parish office a month before the blessing. This ensures we follow Archdiocesan Safe Environment Protocols. There is no need to fill this form out if the musicians are from our parish since they comply with those protocols.
The following link is for the readings of Sacred Scripture that are read during the Quinceañera Celebration in the context of a Liturgy of the Word together with the Consecration (an act of thanksgiving and of personal commitment to lead a Christian life) that the Quinceañera makes during the celebration. The Readings and Consecration are provided in English and Spanish.
